The Punjab government has taken a significant step towards youth empowerment by approving the establishment of the province’s very first Skill City. This initiative, endorsed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to revolutionize technical education and vocational training for young people, equipping them with practical skills that align closely with current industry demands.

During a high-level meeting held in Lahore on Friday, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of developing a comprehensive plan for the Skill City project. She called on officials and experts to submit detailed proposals that would ensure the creation of state-of-the-art technical education institutes within the Skill City. These institutions are envisioned to become centers of excellence, setting new standards in skill development across Punjab.

One of the key decisions made in the meeting was to integrate Punjab’s Technical Vocational Education Board with leading educational institutions from Scotland and the United Kingdom. This collaboration is expected to bring international best practices and curricula, enhancing the quality and relevance of technical training offered to the youth. The project’s curriculum will be carefully designed by specialists from industrial sectors to ensure that students receive education that directly corresponds to market needs.

The Skill City will offer a diverse range of technical courses tailored to emerging and traditional industries. These include graphic designing, media production, fashion designing, data coding, and tourism expertise. Additionally, practical training will be provided in fields such as industrial electrification, plumbing, solar water heating systems, professional culinary arts, and allied health professions. This broad spectrum of courses aims to prepare young people for a variety of career paths, boosting their chances of securing meaningful employment immediately after completing their matriculation.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of recruiting highly qualified educators to deliver this technical education. She instructed the authorities to engage the best teachers and industry experts to develop a syllabus that is both rigorous and relevant. Her vision is clear: every young person in Punjab should emerge from this program with exceptional skills and a unique talent that sets them apart in their chosen field.

Maryam Nawaz expressed her commitment to transforming Punjab’s youth into a formidable workforce by leveraging technical education as a tool for socio-economic development. She assured that all available resources would be mobilized to ensure the success of the Skill City, which she believes will become a cornerstone for the province’s future growth and prosperity. This initiative reflects the government’s broader strategy to address unemployment and equip the younger generation with the capabilities needed to thrive in a competitive job market.
