Rana Sanaullah Dismisses 2018-Style Political Deals for PTI, Emphasizes Firm Stance

Rana Sanaullah Khan, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, firmly declared on Saturday that the political maneuvers and backdoor arrangements witnessed in 2018 will not be replicated in the current political landscape. Speaking during a media interaction in Faisalabad, he made it clear that those who were involved in orchestrating political projects back then remain under close scrutiny and accountability processes are ongoing. This statement signals a decisive shift in the government’s approach toward political negotiations and settlements.

Elaborating on the position of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sanaullah pointed out that while the party might attempt to open channels of dialogue with the establishment, it has yet to demonstrate a genuine commitment to responsible and constructive politics. He emphasized that the government is no longer willing to entertain any form of leniency or informal political deals with PTI, marking a clear departure from the practices of the past. “There will be no shortcuts or backroom arrangements for PTI,” he asserted, underscoring the administration’s resolve to uphold transparency and fairness in political dealings.

Transitioning to matters of foreign policy, Sanaullah addressed Pakistan’s relations with its neighbors, particularly Afghanistan and Iran. He reiterated that Pakistan harbors no hostility towards Afghanistan, provided that the latter takes effective measures to curb terrorism emanating from its soil. This stance reflects Islamabad’s continued emphasis on regional peace and security, while also highlighting the challenges posed by cross-border militancy. Furthermore, Sanaullah condemned any acts of aggression against Iran and expressed strong disapproval over the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining stability and fostering peaceful relations within the region.

It is worth noting that Sanaullah’s remarks come at a time when Pakistan’s political environment remains highly charged, with ongoing tensions between the ruling coalition and opposition parties, particularly PTI. His comments signal the government’s intention to adopt a firmer and more transparent approach to political negotiations, moving away from the opaque deals that characterized previous years. This approach is likely to impact the dynamics of political dialogue and governance in the months ahead.

Overall, Rana Sanaullah’s statements not only clarify the government’s stance on internal political affairs but also reaffirm Pakistan’s dedication to regional diplomacy and security. By rejecting the possibility of political shortcuts and emphasizing accountability, the adviser aims to project an image of a government committed to reform and stability both domestically and internationally.
