Natanz Nuclear Facility Struck Again in US-Israeli Operation, Iran Confirms

Iran has confirmed that its Natanz nuclear enrichment complex was once again targeted early Saturday morning in what it described as a coordinated attack by the United States and Israel. The semi-official Tasnim News Agency conveyed a statement from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), which condemned the strike as part of ongoing hostile actions against the country’s nuclear program.

The AEOI specifically identified the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan enrichment facility within Natanz as the site of the assault. It labeled these operations as “criminal attacks,” emphasizing that such acts flagrantly breach international laws and agreements. Among the treaties cited was the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), alongside various nuclear safety protocols designed to prevent escalation and ensure global security.

In response to the incident, Iran’s Nuclear Safety System Center swiftly conducted thorough technical and specialized evaluations to determine if any radioactive contamination had occurred as a result of the strike. Their comprehensive analysis concluded that no radioactive materials had leaked from the facility, and therefore, there was no threat posed to the local population residing near the nuclear site. This assessment was highlighted to reassure both domestic and international observers about the safety of the surrounding environment.

It is important to note that this is not the first time the Natanz complex has been targeted. Earlier this year, on March 2, a similar attack attributed to US-Israeli forces caused significant disruption at the site. Furthermore, Natanz was among three Iranian nuclear locations struck by US military operations in June of the previous year, alongside the Fordow and Isfahan facilities. These repeated assaults have intensified tensions between Tehran and Washington, as well as with Tel Aviv.

The series of US-Israeli strikes against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure began on February 28 and have since triggered a cycle of retaliation. Tehran has responded with multiple drone and missile attacks directed at Israel and Gulf states that host American military bases. This ongoing conflict underscores the fragile security situation in the region and the high stakes involved in Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the international community’s efforts to contain them.

As the situation continues to evolve, the international community remains watchful of further developments, with concerns mounting over the potential for escalation. The repeated targeting of nuclear facilities not only threatens regional stability but also raises questions about the future of diplomatic efforts aimed at curbing nuclear proliferation in the Middle East.
