Iran Claims Successful Strike on US F-35 Stealth Jet Amid Rising Regional Tensions

In a significant escalation of regional hostilities, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Thursday that it had successfully targeted a US F-35 stealth fighter jet over central Iran. This claim marks a notable development in the ongoing conflict between Iran and its regional adversaries, particularly the United States and Israel. The IRGC’s statement highlights the increasing sophistication of Iran’s military capabilities amid a backdrop of heightened tensions across the Middle East.

The announcement coincided with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s firm declaration that military operations against Iran would persist “as long as necessary.” This rhetoric underscores the deepening animosity and the likelihood of continued confrontations between Israel and Iran. The IRGC revealed that the strike was part of the 65th wave of its prolonged Operation True Promise-4, which has targeted various strategic locations, including oil refineries in the Israeli cities of Haifa and Ashdod. These attacks also extended to multiple military and security installations throughout the region, reflecting a broad and coordinated campaign.

One of the most striking aspects of this operation was the debut combat use of Iran’s newly upgraded Qader cruise missile. This missile represents a significant leap forward in Tehran’s arsenal, demonstrating enhanced range and precision capabilities. The IRGC further claimed that its missile strikes were not limited to Israel but also targeted US-affiliated military bases in the Gulf region. Among these were the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, Isa Air Base in Bahrain, and Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, all key strategic sites for American military operations in the Middle East.

the IRGC, their advanced air defense systems intercepted the US F-35 stealth fighter around 02:50 local time on Thursday, inflicting severe damage. While the exact fate of the aircraft remains unclear, the IRGC suggested that the jet likely crashed following the attack. This claim, if verified, would represent a major blow to US military aviation, as the F-35 is considered one of the most advanced and stealthiest fighter jets in the world.

The IRGC’s announcement also referenced the downing of over 125 US and Israeli drones in previous operations, which it cites as evidence of substantial improvements in its air defense capabilities. This growing proficiency in intercepting sophisticated aerial threats signals a shift in the balance of power in the region’s ongoing conflicts. On Friday, the IRGC escalated the campaign by launching the 66th wave of Operation True Promise-4, deploying a combination of ultra-heavy multi-warhead missiles and drones targeting central and southern Israel, as well as US military installations scattered across the Middle East.

Experts warn that this cycle of missile strikes and enhanced air defense measures risks further destabilizing an already volatile region. The persistent confrontations between Iran, Israel, and US forces could lead to unintended consequences, potentially drawing in other regional and global powers. As the situation unfolds, close attention will be paid to the responses from Washington, Tel Aviv, and their allies, as well as Iran’s next moves in this escalating conflict.
