On Wednesday, a medical board assembled under the directives of the Islamabad High Court carried out a comprehensive examination of the injured eye of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. This detailed medical assessment was conducted within the prison premises, ensuring that all necessary healthcare protocols were strictly followed. The initiative reflects the judiciary’s continued oversight regarding the health condition of the prominent political figure during his incarceration.

The medical team was constituted by the Commissioner of Islamabad, who responded promptly to the court’s instructions. They arrived at Adiala Jail accompanied by a fully equipped ambulance and a support staff trained to handle specialized medical procedures. The presence of advanced medical equipment on-site underscored the seriousness with which the examination was undertaken, aiming to provide an accurate and thorough evaluation of Imran Khan’s eye injury.

The board itself included a panel of highly qualified senior doctors from various medical specialties. Among them were Professor Altaf Hussain, an expert in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disorders; Professor Akhtar Ali Bandesha, a cardiologist with extensive clinical experience; Dr. Muhammad Ali Arif, a medical specialist and associate professor; Dr. Muhammad Arif Khan, an associate professor specializing in ophthalmology; and Professor Nadeem Qureshi, a vitreo-retinal surgeon affiliated with Al-Shifa Eye Hospital. This multidisciplinary team was assembled to ensure a holistic approach to the examination, covering all aspects of Imran Khan’s health related to the eye injury and any associated complications.

Prison officials confirmed that the medical examination was conducted strictly in compliance with the court’s orders. The process was carried out in a controlled environment within the jail, with the PTI founder’s wife, Bushra Bibi, present throughout the assessment. Her presence was noted as a significant element, providing emotional support to Imran Khan during the medical procedure. Authorities also assured that all necessary medical facilities and resources were made available to the doctors, enabling them to perform their duties without any hindrance.

Following the conclusion of the examination, the medical board is expected to compile a detailed report outlining their findings and recommendations. This comprehensive document will be submitted to the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, who will then forward it to the Islamabad High Court for further consideration. The report is anticipated to play a crucial role in determining the subsequent medical care and legal decisions concerning Imran Khan’s health while he remains in custody.

This medical evaluation comes amid ongoing concerns about the health and well-being of political prisoners in Pakistan, highlighting the judiciary’s active role in ensuring that detainees receive appropriate medical attention. The case of Imran Khan continues to attract significant public and media attention, underscoring the importance of transparency and adherence to legal and humanitarian standards within the prison system.
