Imran Khan’s Sons Can Visit Pakistan Without Visas, Eid Call Access Confirmed: Info Minister

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has clarified that the sons of former Prime Minister Imran Khan are permitted to visit Pakistan without the need for visas, provided they use their National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP). This announcement came in response to concerns raised by Khan’s former wife, Jemima Goldsmith, regarding delays in visa issuance for their children, Kasim and Sulaiman. The minister’s statement aims to put to rest any confusion surrounding the travel arrangements for the children amid ongoing political tensions.

Jemima Goldsmith had taken to social media to appeal directly to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting the difficulties faced in securing timely visas for her sons. In her message, she expressed worry about the bureaucratic hurdles that could prevent Kasim and Sulaiman from visiting Pakistan, especially during the upcoming Eid celebrations, a time traditionally reserved for family reunions and cultural observances. Her appeal drew significant public attention, prompting a swift response from the government.

In a detailed reply on the social media platform X, Attaullah Tarar assured that the children are recognized as Pakistani citizens through their NICOP cards, which legally exempts them from requiring visas for entry into the country. He emphasized that this arrangement has been consistent in previous years and remains unchanged. Furthermore, Tarar confirmed that Imran Khan would be able to communicate with his sons via telephone on Eid Day, maintaining the family connection despite the former prime minister’s current incarceration.

The minister also underscored that while the children are welcome to visit Pakistan freely using their NICOPs, they are expected to adhere strictly to all Pakistani laws during their stay. This reminder serves as a standard protocol for all visitors, ensuring that the legal framework is respected regardless of political affiliations or family ties. The government’s position reflects an effort to balance humanitarian considerations with the rule of law.

This development is significant in the broader context of Imran Khan’s ongoing legal and political challenges. As the former prime minister remains behind bars, maintaining contact with his family is crucial for both personal and public reasons. The assurance of an Eid phone call and the facilitation of his sons’ travel arrangements highlight the government’s willingness to accommodate familial rights amid a complex political landscape. It also signals a measure of goodwill during a period marked by heightened political sensitivities.

Overall, the Information Minister’s statement provides clarity and reassurance to the public and the family alike, ensuring that Kasim and Sulaiman Khan can visit their homeland without unnecessary obstacles. The confirmation of Eid communication further strengthens the bond between Imran Khan and his children during this important religious festival, reflecting the cultural importance of family unity in Pakistan.
