Netflix has officially revealed the complete cast lineup for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the iconic Scooby-Doo franchise. This announcement comes nearly a year after the streaming giant greenlit the project with a straight-to-series order, signaling strong confidence in the show’s potential to captivate both longtime fans and new audiences alike.
The series is being developed by Warner Bros. Television, with acclaimed showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg at the helm. Adding further weight to the production, Greg Berlanti, known for his extensive work in television, is onboard as one of the executive producers. This collaboration brings together a powerhouse team poised to deliver a fresh take on the beloved mystery-solving group.
Joining the previously announced McKenna Grace, who will portray Daphne, are Maxwell Jenkins, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Tanner Hagen. Jenkins, recognized for his roles in “Lost in Space” and “Reacher,” will take on the role of Fred, the confident and resourceful leader of the gang. Fortson, known for her performance in “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” will bring Velma to life, embodying the sharp and pragmatic intellect of the character. Meanwhile, Tanner Hagen will portray Shaggy, the laid-back and quirky friend, completing the core group of Mystery Incorporated.
The storyline promises a contemporary reimagining of the classic cartoon that first debuted in 1969 and has since undergone numerous adaptations. Netflix describes the plot as revolving around the final summer at camp for Shaggy and Daphne, who stumble upon a chilling mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy—an animal that may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Alongside Velma, the scientifically minded local, and Fred, the enigmatic new kid, the group embarks on a suspenseful journey to uncover secrets that threaten to unravel their lives.
Appelbaum and Rosenberg will executive produce the series through their production company, Midnight Radio, alongside Berlanti Productions’ Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman. Additional executive producers include André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson from Midnight Radio, with Toby Haynes directing the pilot episode. This talented team aims to blend mystery, suspense, and character-driven storytelling to breathe new life into the Scooby-Doo universe.
As anticipation builds, the series is expected to attract viewers eager to see how this modern adaptation balances nostalgia with innovative storytelling. With a cast of promising young actors and a creative team experienced in both drama and genre projects, Netflix’s Scooby-Doo series is shaping up to be a standout addition to the streaming platform’s growing slate of original content.
