Security Forces Neutralize Five India-Supported Militants in Lakki Marwat Operation

In a significant counterterrorism operation carried out in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan’s security forces successfully eliminated five terrorists who were reportedly supported by Indian intelligence agencies. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a detailed statement on Sunday confirming the outcome of the operation, which took place on March 15 following credible intelligence about the presence of hostile elements in the area.

The military’s media wing described the operation as a swift and decisive engagement, during which troops encountered the militants’ hideout and exchanged heavy fire. After a fierce gunbattle, the security personnel managed to neutralize all five terrorists, who had been involved in multiple violent activities destabilizing the region. The statement emphasized that the militants were part of a network actively fomenting unrest and carrying out attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In addition to eliminating the terrorists, the security forces recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition from the site, further disrupting the militants’ operational capabilities. The ISPR highlighted that following the initial clearance, a thorough sanitization sweep was conducted to ensure no other hostile elements remained in the vicinity. This follow-up operation is part of a broader strategy to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan’s border regions.

The counterterrorism drive falls under the umbrella of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, a sustained campaign launched by Pakistan’s military to dismantle terrorist networks that receive support from external actors. Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed a marked increase in cross-border terrorist activities, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which share extensive borders with Afghanistan.

In response to these escalating threats, Pakistan initiated “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq,” targeting Afghan Taliban operatives and their affiliates operating within Pakistani territory. This operation has so far resulted in the elimination of approximately 684 militants, with over 900 others injured. Additionally, Pakistani forces have destroyed 252 militant checkposts, significantly weakening the insurgents’ foothold in the border areas. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar recently provided these figures, underscoring the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security.

It is important to recall that tensions between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban escalated sharply in October 2025, when unprovoked attacks were launched against Pakistani border posts. These clashes led to the deaths of more than 200 Taliban fighters and allied militants, while Pakistan mourned the loss of 23 soldiers who were killed defending the nation’s frontiers. Despite numerous rounds of diplomatic talks aimed at de-escalation, no lasting agreement has been reached, largely due to the Afghan Taliban regime’s unwillingness to take decisive action against terrorist groups operating from their soil.

As the security forces continue their relentless operations, the ISPR reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate all forms of terrorism, especially those fueled by foreign interference. The ongoing efforts in Lakki Marwat and other sensitive regions demonstrate the country’s determination to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its citizens from the scourge of terrorism.
