Iran Expresses Gratitude to Pakistan for Support Amid US-Israel Hostilities

In a significant gesture of appreciation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi extended heartfelt thanks to both the government and people of Pakistan for their unwavering solidarity during a period of heightened aggression from the United States and Israel. This expression of gratitude underscores the close diplomatic ties and mutual respect between the two neighboring countries, especially amid the ongoing geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East.

Araghchi took to the social media platform X to share his message in Urdu, emphasizing Iran’s steadfast commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He highlighted that the Islamic Republic remains resolute and confident, placing its trust in divine support during these challenging times. The minister described the current phase as “blessed, divine, and spiritual,” reflecting the deep conviction with which Iran is confronting external pressures and threats.

Further elaborating on Iran’s position, Araghchi praised Pakistan’s strong show of support, noting that the solidarity demonstrated by Islamabad and its citizens sends a powerful message of unity against the ongoing hostilities. This backing, he said, not only reinforces Iran’s stance but also symbolizes a broader regional resistance to the aggressive actions led by the US and Israel. The timing of this statement is particularly crucial as tensions continue to escalate following a series of military confrontations.

The backdrop to these developments involves a sharp escalation in conflict that began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks targeting Iranian assets. In response, Tehran retaliated by striking US military bases across the Gulf region, including locations within Saudi Arabia, utilizing missiles and drones. These exchanges have significantly destabilized the region, raising concerns over a wider conflict and its implications for global security and energy supplies.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has played a diplomatic role by offering to mediate indirect talks between Tehran and Washington aimed at de-escalating the violence. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan recently addressed the Senate, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy strictly for peaceful purposes. He revealed that during discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Pakistan conveyed Iran’s willingness to refrain from pursuing nuclear weapons, while the US continues to demand the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program.

The Pakistani leadership has made it clear that while it stands firmly with Iran in this crisis, it is equally committed to preventing the conflict from expanding into a broader regional war. This balanced approach reflects Islamabad’s desire to maintain stability in South Asia and the Middle East, recognizing the far-reaching consequences any escalation could have on regional peace and economic conditions.

As the conflict drags into its third week, the repercussions are being felt far beyond the immediate combat zones. The ongoing US-Israeli campaign against Iran has sent shockwaves through global energy markets, given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz. This narrow passageway facilitates the transit of approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply, making its security a critical international concern.

Former US President Donald Trump recently called on nations heavily dependent on Gulf oil to take responsibility for protecting the Strait of Hormuz. However, his appeal for a coalition to secure this vital waterway has not gained traction among key allies. Countries like Japan and Australia have explicitly stated they have no plans to deploy naval forces to escort commercial vessels through the strait, highlighting the complexities and geopolitical sensitivities surrounding the conflict.

Adding to the tension, explosions were reported in Tehran on Monday, coinciding with Israeli claims of conducting extensive overnight airstrikes. An AFP journalist on the ground confirmed that blasts were heard in central Tehran, accompanied by the activation of air defense systems. While the exact targets of these strikes remain unclear, the incident underscores the precarious security situation in Iran’s capital and the potential for further escalation.

In summary, the ongoing conflict between Iran, the US, and Israel has drawn Pakistan into a delicate diplomatic balancing act. Iran’s public acknowledgment of Pakistan’s support highlights the importance of regional alliances in times of crisis, while the broader international community watches closely as tensions threaten to destabilize an already volatile region.
