Pakistan is gearing up for a highly anticipated encounter against India in the group stage of the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup. This much-awaited match is scheduled to take place on August 19 at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) unveiled the full tournament schedule on March 18, just a day after the official pool draw was announced, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting competition.

The 2026 men’s Hockey World Cup will be jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, running from August 15 through August 30. Pakistan finds itself placed in Pool D, alongside strong contenders India, England, and Wales. This grouping presents a challenging path for Pakistan, who are making their return to the World Cup after an eight-year hiatus. Their re-entry into this prestigious tournament has generated renewed enthusiasm among fans and players alike, eager to see the team perform on hockey’s grandest platform once again.

Pakistan’s campaign will officially kick off on August 15 against England at the Wagener Hockey Stadium. Following this opener, they will face Wales on August 17 before locking horns with their arch-rivals India two days later, also in Amstelveen. Notably, all three of Pakistan’s group matches will be held in the Netherlands, providing a consistent venue for the team as they navigate through this demanding stage of the competition.

The road to qualification for Pakistan was paved through a strong showing at the qualification tournament held in Ismailia, Egypt. Despite a 4-1 defeat to England in the final, Pakistan’s overall performance was sufficient to secure their spot in the World Cup. This achievement has sparked optimism about the team’s prospects and their potential to make a significant impact in the upcoming tournament.

The 2026 World Cup will feature 16 elite men’s teams competing across two venues: the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands, and the Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, Belgium. Among the fixtures, the Pakistan-India match is expected to draw considerable attention due to the historic rivalry and intense competition between the two nations. This encounter is anticipated to be one of the tournament’s highlights, capturing the interest of hockey enthusiasts worldwide.

As the tournament approaches, Pakistan’s players and supporters alike are preparing for a challenging yet promising campaign. The clash with India on August 19 will not only test their skills but also reignite a fierce sporting rivalry that has long been a centerpiece of international hockey. With the World Cup set to unfold across two vibrant hockey nations, the stage is perfectly set for thrilling matches and memorable moments.
