PM Shehbaz Sharif Orders Early Release of Federal Employees’ Salaries Ahead of Eid Festivities

ISLAMABAD: In a significant move aimed at easing the financial burden on government employees during the festive season, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives to release the salaries of federal government employees ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. This decision underscores the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce during one of the most important religious holidays in the country.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced on Monday that all federal departments have been instructed to expedite the processing of salary payments. This proactive approach is intended to ensure that employees receive their due compensation well before the Eid holidays commence, allowing them to make necessary arrangements for the festivities without financial stress.

Such timely salary disbursement is particularly crucial as Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting and spiritual reflection, followed by joyous celebrations with family and friends. The government’s decision reflects an understanding of the cultural and economic importance of Eid, as well as the need to provide financial stability to public sector workers during this period.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has provided an update regarding the lunar calendar, which plays a vital role in determining the exact date of Eid. The department has confirmed that the Shawwal moon is unlikely to be sighted on the 29th day of Ramadan this year. This means that the holy month will complete its full 30-day cycle before Eid is officially observed.

the PMD’s statement, the new moon is expected to be born on March 19 at 6:23 a.m. However, by sunset on the same day, the moon’s age will be between 12 and 13 hours, making it too young and difficult to spot with the naked eye. The department emphasized that due to these unfavorable visibility conditions, the moon will not be visible on the evening of March 19, which corresponds to the 29th day of Ramadan.

This lunar observation is critical as it determines the exact timing of Eid-ul-Fitr, a festival celebrated by millions across Pakistan and the Muslim world. The confirmation of a 30-day Ramadan allows families, businesses, and government offices to plan accordingly for the holiday period.

Overall, the government’s early salary payment directive combined with the meteorological update provides clarity and reassurance to federal employees and the general public as they prepare to welcome Eid. These coordinated efforts highlight the administration’s focus on both economic welfare and cultural observance during this important time.
