Rawalpindi Traffic Police Roll Out Enhanced Ramazan Traffic Plan for Final Ashra

On Monday, March 16, 2026, the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police unveiled a comprehensive traffic management strategy aimed at addressing the anticipated surge of shoppers during the last Ashra of Ramazan. This initiative comes as markets and commercial hubs across Rawalpindi prepare for the busiest shopping days leading up to Eid-ul-Fitr, when footfall and vehicle movement typically increase dramatically.

The newly introduced traffic plan is designed to alleviate congestion and facilitate smoother movement for citizens navigating through the city’s bustling commercial zones. The authorities emphasized that the scheme is part of a proactive approach to prevent the usual gridlocks and traffic snarls that disrupt daily life during this festive period. The plan was formulated under the direct guidance of Farhan Aslam, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Rawalpindi, who has prioritized public convenience and safety during these critical days.

Central to the strategy is the deployment of additional traffic wardens at key locations known for heavy crowding, including major roads, shopping centers, and traditional bazaars. These areas witness a significant influx of visitors purchasing clothes, footwear, and gifts in preparation for Eid, which often leads to severe traffic congestion. To bolster the on-ground presence, office staff have also been reassigned to field duties on a rotational basis, ensuring continuous monitoring and management of traffic flow until the conclusion of Ramazan.

CTO Farhan Aslam highlighted the importance of this enhanced deployment, noting that the last ten days of Ramazan consistently attract large crowds to commercial districts. He explained that the additional personnel are essential to effectively manage the sudden spike in both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, thereby minimizing delays and inconvenience for shoppers and commuters alike.

Currently, over 800 traffic officers and wardens are actively engaged in maintaining order across Rawalpindi, working tirelessly around the clock to ensure smooth transit and uphold public safety. These officers have been strategically positioned at critical intersections, major thoroughfares, and crowded marketplaces where traffic bottlenecks are most common. Their presence aims to streamline vehicle movement and reduce the risk of accidents during this peak shopping season.

In addition to regular duties, special traffic enforcement squads have been mobilized throughout the city. These teams focus on curbing specific violations that frequently exacerbate traffic problems, such as dangerous one-wheeling stunts, illegal parking, and reckless driving. By targeting these infractions, the squads strive to maintain road discipline and enhance overall traffic safety during the hectic days leading up to Eid.

The traffic department has made it clear that strict penalties will be imposed on those who disregard traffic regulations, reinforcing the message that compliance is crucial for the well-being of all road users. The CTO has appealed to the public to cooperate fully with traffic wardens, urging patience and adherence to rules such as avoiding parking in prohibited zones and respecting traffic signals.

Authorities believe that the success of this traffic management plan heavily depends on the active participation of citizens. By working together and following guidelines, the community can help ensure that the final Ashra of Ramazan unfolds smoothly, allowing everyone to enjoy a safe and hassle-free shopping experience in the run-up to Eid celebrations.
