Bangladesh Edges Pakistan in Thrilling Final ODI to Win Series 2-1

In a gripping conclusion to the three-match ODI series, Bangladesh emerged victorious against Pakistan by a narrow margin of 11 runs in the final encounter held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. This win allowed Bangladesh to seal the series 2-1, showcasing a blend of powerful batting and incisive bowling performances that ultimately proved decisive.

The highlight of Bangladesh’s innings was Tanzid Hasan, who celebrated his maiden One Day International century with a commanding knock of 107 runs off just 107 deliveries. His innings was a spectacular display of aggressive stroke play, featuring six boundaries and seven towering sixes. Tanzid’s performance not only set the tone for Bangladesh’s competitive total but also earned him the player of the match and series awards, underlining his vital contribution to the team’s success.

Opening the batting with Saif Hassan, Tanzid helped lay a solid foundation by putting together a 105-run partnership for the first wicket. Saif’s composed 36 runs came off 55 balls, providing stability in the early stages. However, Pakistan’s captain Shaheen Shah Afridi eventually broke the partnership in the 19th over, dismissing Saif and injecting some momentum into Pakistan’s bowling attack. Despite this setback, Tanzid maintained his dominance, reaching his half-century in 47 balls and subsequently converting it into a well-earned century from 98 balls.

Tanzid’s innings came to an end in the 37th over when he was caught off the bowling of Abrar Ahmed, leaving Bangladesh at 194 for three. The middle and lower order then took charge, with Litton Das attempting to accelerate the scoring rate by contributing 41 runs off 51 balls. Towhid Hridoy added crucial late runs, remaining unbeaten on 48 off 44 deliveries. Although Bangladesh managed to add 77 runs in the final 10 overs, they lost two wickets in the process, finishing their innings at 290 for five.

On the bowling front, Pakistan’s Haris Rauf was the standout performer, claiming three wickets for 52 runs in his full quota of 10 overs. Afridi and Abrar Ahmed chipped in with one wicket each, but the bowling unit struggled to contain the Bangladeshi batsmen during key moments of the innings.

Chasing a target of 291, Pakistan faced early difficulties as they slipped to 82 for five, putting their hopes of a series win under serious threat. However, a resilient fightback was led by Salman Agha, who played a valiant innings of 106 runs off 98 balls. His efforts kept Pakistan in the hunt and injected belief into the batting lineup. Despite Agha’s heroics, Bangladesh’s bowlers, particularly Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, regained control at crucial junctures.

Taskin Ahmed was instrumental in swinging the momentum back in Bangladesh’s favor, finishing with impressive figures of four wickets for 49 runs. Mustafizur Rahman also played a key role by taking three wickets for 54 runs, effectively dismantling Pakistan’s middle order and preventing any significant partnerships from forming. Ultimately, Pakistan were bowled out for 279, falling short by 11 runs in a closely contested match.

This thrilling finale not only highlighted the emerging talent within the Bangladesh cricket team but also underscored their growing competitiveness on the international stage. The series victory will undoubtedly boost their confidence moving forward, while Pakistan will look to regroup and address the shortcomings exposed during this encounter.
