Security Forces Neutralize Five India-Backed Terrorists in Lakki Marwat Operation

Security forces successfully eliminated five terrorists with alleged backing from India during a targeted operation in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement on Sunday detailing the operation, which was launched on March 15 following intelligence reports about the presence of hostile elements in the area. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Pakistan’s security apparatus to curb terrorism and maintain stability in the region.

During the operation, troops engaged the terrorists’ hideout in a fierce exchange of gunfire. The ISPR communiqué described the encounter as intense, with the security forces effectively overpowering the militants and neutralizing all five individuals involved. The slain terrorists were reportedly active participants in multiple violent activities that had been destabilizing the local community. In addition to eliminating the militants, the forces recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, further disrupting the operational capabilities of these groups.

Following the initial clearance, security personnel initiated a thorough sanitization sweep to ensure no other hostile elements, described as India-sponsored militants, remained in the vicinity. This follow-up operation is part of a broader counterterrorism campaign under the banner of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, which aims to eradicate foreign-supported terrorism from Pakistan’s soil. The ISPR reaffirmed the military’s commitment to continue these operations with full resolve until the threat is completely neutralized.

It is important to understand the broader context in which these operations are taking place. Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed a marked increase in cross-border terrorist activities, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which share porous borders with Afghanistan. These incidents have posed serious security challenges, prompting Pakistan to intensify its counterterrorism measures.

In response to the escalating threat, Pakistan launched a major offensive named Operation Ghazab lil-Haq. This campaign has reportedly resulted in the deaths of approximately 684 Afghan Taliban operatives and affiliated militants, with over 900 others injured. Additionally, Pakistani forces have destroyed 252 militant checkposts along the border, significantly disrupting the militants’ operational infrastructure. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar recently confirmed these figures, underscoring the scale and intensity of Pakistan’s military response.

It is also worth noting that tensions between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban escalated sharply in October 2025, when unprovoked attacks were launched against Pakistani border posts. The ensuing clashes resulted in the deaths of more than 200 Taliban fighters and militants, while Pakistan mourned the loss of 23 soldiers who were killed defending the country’s frontiers. Despite multiple rounds of diplomatic talks aimed at de-escalation, no lasting agreement has been reached, largely due to the Afghan Taliban regime’s unwillingness to take decisive action against terrorist groups operating from their territory.

As Pakistan continues to face these complex security challenges, operations like the recent one in Lakki Marwat demonstrate the military’s ongoing vigilance and determination to protect the nation from external and internal threats. The government and security forces remain committed to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and ensuring peace for its citizens through sustained counterterrorism efforts.
