Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi Pledges to Launch PM Youth Programme in Province

In his first-ever press conference held in Karachi on Sunday, Sindh’s newly appointed Governor Nehal Hashmi emphasized his role as a constitutional figure rather than an elected representative. Addressing the media, Hashmi clarified that his position is rooted in responsibility and service rather than privilege, underscoring his commitment to representing every individual, including children, from all corners of Sindh’s rural and urban areas.

He expressed a deep sense of duty towards the people of Sindh, stating that his primary objective is to serve with honesty and fairness. Hashmi prayed for divine guidance to help him fulfill the obligations of his office effectively. His remarks reflected a determination to bridge gaps and work towards the welfare of the province’s diverse population, particularly focusing on youth empowerment and education.

Highlighting a key initiative, Governor Hashmi announced that the federal government plans to extend the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) to Sindh. This move is expected to create new employment opportunities and improve educational resources for young people throughout the province. He mentioned his recent discussions with Fahad Shafiq, the Sindh Coordinator for the PMYP, assuring that the benefits of employment, education, and vocational training currently available in other regions will soon be accessible to Sindh’s youth as well.

Hashmi elaborated that the programme would go beyond basic computer training and youth engagement activities. Instead, it would offer a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance educational outcomes, including timely certification and degree issuance. This approach aims to equip young Sindhis with the skills and qualifications necessary to compete in today’s job market, thereby fostering long-term socio-economic development.

In addition to educational reforms, the Governor announced a humanitarian initiative to provide free Sehri and Iftar meals at the Governor House starting Monday. This service will be available to deserving individuals, reflecting a spirit of community support and solidarity during the holy month. Hashmi emphasized that this effort transcends political affiliations, urging that it be seen as a gesture for all Pakistanis rather than a partisan campaign.

Addressing the media further, Hashmi made a clear distinction between genuine news and propaganda, inviting the public to openly discuss his personal character. However, he firmly requested that criticism should never extend to his country, province, or the city of Karachi, which he holds dear. This plea highlights his patriotic stance and dedication to maintaining unity and respect within the public discourse.

Lastly, the Governor paid tribute to Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, describing him as a patriot who comes from a humble background similar to many ordinary Pakistanis. Hashmi’s comments underscored the values of hard work and love for the nation that he believes are shared by the military leadership and the people alike.
