Trump Claims Most Tanker Planes Escaped Major Damage in Saudi Base Attack

Former U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the recent attack on a Saudi Arabian military base, emphasizing that the majority of the American tanker aircraft involved suffered only minor harm. Speaking on his social media platform, he clarified that four out of five refueling planes targeted in the strike experienced “virtually no damage” and have already returned to active service. This statement comes amid conflicting reports about the extent of the damage inflicted during the incident.

Trump further elaborated that while one of the five planes did sustain somewhat greater damage, it is expected to be repaired swiftly and will soon be operational again. His remarks aimed to downplay the severity of the attack, which had raised concerns about the vulnerability of U.S. assets stationed at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. The base has strategic importance as a hub for American military operations in the region, making any damage to its aircraft a matter of significant interest.

In his post, Trump also criticized certain U.S. media outlets for their coverage of the event, singling out the Wall Street Journal for what he described as exaggerated reporting. The Journal had reported that Iranian missile strikes had damaged five U.S. Air Force refueling planes on the ground at the base. However, it was noted that no casualties occurred during the attack and that repair efforts were already underway. Trump’s comments suggest a desire to reassure the public and military stakeholders about the resilience and readiness of U.S. forces in the area.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and Saudi Arabia, with the United States often caught in the middle due to its alliances and military presence. Attacks on military infrastructure such as Prince Sultan Air Base underscore the fragile security situation and the risks faced by personnel and equipment stationed far from home. The swift return of the tanker planes to service is a critical factor in maintaining operational capabilities for aerial refueling missions that support a wide range of military activities.

As the situation develops, officials continue to monitor the security environment closely, balancing the need for a strong military posture with diplomatic efforts to reduce regional hostilities. The repair and readiness of the aircraft involved in the attack will likely remain a key focus for U.S. defense authorities, ensuring that such assets remain available to support ongoing operations in the Middle East and beyond.
