Zahid Ahmed Highlights the Lasting Harm of Harsh Words on Children’s Mental Health

Zahid Ahmed, one of Pakistan’s most respected actors, recently opened up about the significant emotional damage that harsh words and strict discipline can inflict on children. Speaking on the Friday episode of the popular talk show Shan-e-Sahoor, Ahmed delved into various subjects, ranging from his craft as an actor to his evolving views on personal development and parenting. His reflections were sparked by a recent role that profoundly affected his understanding of childhood trauma.

In this particular play, Zahid portrayed a character whose life had been deeply scarred by abuse and threats during his formative years. The role required Ahmed to explore the psychological aftermath of such experiences, which left the character emotionally broken and struggling with self-worth. This intense immersion into the character’s mindset led Zahid to rethink traditional approaches to raising children, especially the use of harsh language and physical punishment.

Ahmed shared that embodying this troubled character was a transformative experience, one that reshaped his perspective on parenting and child psychology. He stressed that the mental well-being of a child is an essential foundation for their overall development, a fact often overlooked in favor of strict disciplinary measures. “I came to understand that words and actions that seem harsh can actually dismantle a child’s sense of self,” he explained. This realization has made him more conscious of the delicate nature of a child’s emotional health.

The 41-year-old actor also pointed out that while many parents from previous generations believed in a tougher, more authoritarian style of upbringing, this mindset can have unintended negative consequences. He emphasized that damaging a child’s self-esteem through verbal or physical punishment can leave lasting scars that affect their confidence and mental stability well into adulthood. “You cannot break a child’s spirit without it leaving deep wounds,” Zahid remarked thoughtfully.

His candid discussion highlights a growing awareness in Pakistani society about the importance of nurturing children with kindness and understanding rather than fear and strictness. Zahid Ahmed’s insights serve as a reminder that parenting styles must evolve to prioritize emotional support, ensuring children grow up with a strong, healthy sense of self. As a public figure, his reflections carry weight and encourage parents and caregivers to reconsider the impact of their words and actions on young minds.
