HYDERABAD – Monem Zafar, the Karachi chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), delivered a forceful critique of the ongoing crises plaguing Karachi, emphasizing that the city’s residents continue to suffer from severe shortages in essential services such as water, electricity, and public transportation. Speaking at a public gathering in Hyderabad, he attributed these persistent hardships to the entrenched control of feudal lords and waderas, whose influence he claims has been forcibly imposed on the metropolis, thereby depriving ordinary citizens of their fundamental rights.
In his address, Zafar specifically targeted the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) provincial government, accusing it of a blatant unwillingness to address the basic needs of Karachi’s population. He argued that the PPP’s prolonged rule—spanning nearly two decades—has been marked by neglect and exploitation, with feudal interests prioritizing their own power over the welfare of the city’s millions. him, this system is effectively “snatching the right to live” from Karachi’s inhabitants, who are left to endure worsening living conditions without adequate support or relief.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Monem Zafar called for a united and determined resistance against this oppressive status quo. He urged the people of Karachi to come together as an “unbreakable wall” to confront and dismantle the feudal structures that have long dominated the city’s political and social landscape. He stressed that the continuation of this system of cruelty is unacceptable and that only through collective struggle can the citizens hope to reclaim their rights and improve their quality of life.
Beyond local issues, Zafar also touched on the shifting dynamics of international affairs, drawing attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He described the suffering of Palestinians as a stark example of extreme cruelty, praising their resilience and willingness to sacrifice their lives rather than submit to oppression. This reference served to underscore his broader message about resistance and unity in the face of adversity, linking local struggles with global challenges.
Concluding his speech, Monem Zafar issued a stern warning about the deliberate attempts to divide the public along ethnic and sectarian lines. He cautioned that such divisions only serve the interests of powerful enemies who seek to weaken the Muslim Ummah from within. Calling for solidarity, he urged all Muslims to stand united and confront these larger threats together, emphasizing that only through unity can they overcome the multifaceted challenges facing their communities both at home and abroad.
