KARACHI: Senior Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon expressed strong condemnation on Saturday against Pakistan Customs following the seizure of a vehicle belonging to the Sindh government. The Customs authorities had detained the vehicle, alleging that customs duties had not been paid, sparking a sharp response from the provincial minister.

In a detailed post on social media platform X, Sharjeel Memon clarified that the vehicle in question is officially owned by the Sindh Information Department. He further substantiated his claim by sharing all relevant ownership and registration documents to prove the government’s legitimate possession of the car. the minister, the vehicle was procured through an authorized dealership, ensuring all procedural formalities were duly completed at the time of purchase.

Sharjeel Memon criticized the Customs department’s actions as unjustified and described the incident as an unacceptable display of bureaucratic overreach. He emphasized that the concerned officials had already presented the necessary government paperwork to Customs representatives, yet the vehicle was still confiscated without proper cause. The minister called for immediate rectification of the situation.

Demanding swift action, the Sindh minister urged Pakistan Customs to promptly release the seized vehicle back to the relevant government department. Additionally, he insisted that the Customs authorities issue a formal written apology for the inconvenience and disruption caused by their unwarranted seizure. This incident has raised concerns about the coordination between federal agencies and provincial departments, especially regarding government assets and their clearance procedures.

It is worth noting that such disputes over customs duties and government property have occasionally surfaced in the past, highlighting the need for clearer communication channels and streamlined protocols. The minister’s public rebuke underscores the sensitivity surrounding inter-agency relations and the importance of respecting provincial government rights.

As the situation develops, observers will be watching closely to see how Pakistan Customs responds to the demands and whether the vehicle will be returned without further delay. Meanwhile, this episode adds to ongoing discussions about administrative efficiency and accountability within government operations at both federal and provincial levels.
