Netflix has officially revealed that a sequel to its wildly popular animated musical, K-Pop Demon Hunters, is currently in development. This announcement comes after months of eager anticipation and speculation from fans worldwide, following the original film’s unprecedented success. Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who helmed the first installment, are set to return to lead the creative team for this next chapter, promising to continue the story that captivated audiences everywhere.

The original movie, which debuted in June 2025, quickly soared to become the most-watched film in Netflix’s history. It tells the thrilling tale of a K-pop girl group who secretly fight demons while using their music to protect the world. This unique blend of supernatural action and vibrant musical performances resonated deeply with viewers, turning the film into a global pop culture sensation almost overnight. Its success not only highlighted the growing international appeal of Korean storytelling but also showcased the innovative potential of animation combined with music.

Expanding on this momentum, the upcoming sequel is part of a broader, multiyear collaboration between Netflix and the film’s directors, Kang and Appelhans. This partnership aims to further explore the rich universe they created, delving deeper into the characters’ lives and the intricate world they inhabit. Maggie Kang expressed her pride as a Korean filmmaker, emphasizing the significance of sharing Korean stories and characters with a global audience. She hinted at the vast untapped potential within the narrative, assuring fans that the journey is far from over and that the sequel will reveal much more of this fascinating world.

Chris Appelhans, 45, echoed these sentiments, describing the characters as akin to family and the story’s world as a second home for the creative team. He highlighted their excitement about challenging the characters in new ways and pushing creative boundaries, particularly in how music, animation, and storytelling intersect. This approach promises to deliver an even more immersive and emotionally resonant experience for viewers, building on the foundation laid by the original film.

The first movie featured an impressive voice cast, including well-known actors such as Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. The fictional girl group HUNTR/X’s singing voices were brought to life by talented artists Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami. While casting details for the sequel have not yet been disclosed, fans are eagerly awaiting announcements regarding who will return to reprise their roles and which new voices will join the ensemble.

At this stage, Netflix has not revealed an official release date for the sequel, leaving audiences to speculate on when they can expect to return to the thrilling world of K-Pop Demon Hunters. Given the film’s massive impact and the creative team’s commitment, anticipation is building for what promises to be another groundbreaking installment in this innovative animated musical saga.
