The disruption quickly became apparent as thousands of users reported problems simultaneously, flooding online forums and outage tracking sites with complaints. At the height of the incident, the website Downdetector registered over 12,000 reports of issues, marking a significant surge well above typical daily levels. Notably, nearly 75 percent of these complaints originated from users accessing Instagram via mobile devices, highlighting the widespread impact on the app’s core user base.
Major metropolitan areas in the United States, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix, New York, and Washington, D.C., were among the hardest hit, with residents reporting persistent difficulties in sending messages and refreshing their feeds. Meanwhile, the outage extended beyond American borders, affecting users in India as well, where more than 1,300 reports were logged during the peak period.
