Sindh Government Declares Public Holiday on March 13 to Commemorate Youm-e-Quds

The Sindh provincial government has officially declared a public holiday throughout the province on March 13 in observance of Youm-e-Quds. This decision was finalized following extensive and fruitful discussions between provincial authorities and representatives of Tehreek Azadi-e-Quds, the organization responsible for coordinating the annual event. Government offices and numerous public institutions will remain closed, allowing citizens to participate fully in the day’s activities dedicated to expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Negotiations between the provincial administration and Tehreek Azadi-e-Quds were described as positive and constructive by the organization’s spokesperson. Both parties reached a mutual understanding on the arrangements for the upcoming Youm-e-Quds events, ensuring that the observance will be organized smoothly and respectfully. The spokesperson welcomed the government’s move to declare a holiday, emphasizing that it underscores the significance of Youm-e-Quds for a large segment of the population in Sindh.

One of the key outcomes of these discussions was the decision to change the venue for the main Youm-e-Quds rally in Karachi. Initially planned to be held on Shahrah-e-Faisal, the rally will now take place on M. A. Jinnah Road. This change was made after consultations with local authorities, who believe the new location will better facilitate security measures and traffic management. The shift aims to minimize disruption and ensure the safety of participants and the general public alike.

Local administration officials have pledged their full cooperation and support to the organizers throughout the duration of the events. They have assured that comprehensive security protocols and traffic control plans will be implemented to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents. The spokesperson for Tehreek Azadi-e-Quds expressed confidence that the administration’s involvement will be instrumental in conducting peaceful gatherings and rallies across the city.

Youm-e-Quds is observed annually on the last Friday of Ramadan in various countries around the world, symbolizing solidarity with Palestinians and opposition to Israeli occupation. In Pakistan, this day is marked by rallies, seminars, and public meetings aimed at raising awareness and support for the Palestinian cause. This year, the Sindh government’s declaration of a public holiday is expected to encourage greater participation from the public, allowing more people to join the events organized in different parts of the province.

Authorities have also issued advisories urging citizens to adhere to official guidelines regarding traffic diversions and security arrangements during the rallies. They have called for peaceful conduct and cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the day’s proceedings remain orderly and respectful of public safety. The government’s proactive approach highlights the importance of Youm-e-Quds not only as a political statement but also as a significant cultural and social event within Sindh.
