Eleven Workers Rescued After Kidnapping in Balochistan’s Khuzdar District

In a significant development from Balochistan, eleven individuals involved in a World Bank-funded water channels project were successfully recovered following their abduction in Khuzdar district. The group, comprising officials and laborers, had been missing since late October, sparking widespread concern among authorities and local communities.

The incident took place on October 22 when the workers were carrying out their duties in the Karkh area of Khuzdar. They were reportedly kidnapped while engaged in the construction and maintenance of vital water infrastructure, a project supported by the World Bank aimed at improving irrigation and water management in the region. Among those abducted was the project manager from a private firm responsible for overseeing the execution of the initiative.

It is important to highlight that six of the kidnapped laborers were from Sindh province, reflecting the diverse workforce involved in this development effort. The abduction had raised alarms not only because of the humanitarian concerns but also due to the potential impact on the progress of the water channels project, which plays a crucial role in addressing water scarcity issues in Balochistan.

After weeks of coordinated efforts by local law enforcement agencies, all eleven individuals were recovered late last night. The Khuzdar police have officially confirmed the safe return of the workers, marking a positive resolution to a tense situation. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the recovery or the identities of those responsible for the kidnapping, but investigations are reportedly ongoing.

This incident underscores the challenges faced by development projects in volatile regions, where security risks can disrupt critical infrastructure work. The safe recovery of the workers is a relief for their families and the project stakeholders, who are now focused on ensuring the continuation of the water channels initiative without further interruptions. Meanwhile, security measures are expected to be strengthened to protect personnel involved in such essential development programs across Balochistan.
