The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an important weather alert predicting rainfall and turbulent weather conditions across various regions of Pakistan from March 9 through March 12, 2026. This advisory highlights the likelihood of rain accompanied by gusty winds and even hailstorms in some northern and central parts of the country, signaling a shift in weather patterns that residents and authorities should prepare for.
the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to experience intermittent rainfall during this period. The Potohar Plateau, which encompasses key areas such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Mianwali, is also forecasted to face strong winds alongside light rain showers within the next 12 to 24 hours. Notably, the upper reaches of Islamabad and neighboring Potohar districts may see hailstorms, which could impact daily activities and require caution from the local population.
Focusing on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the NDMA has highlighted that from March 9 to 11, numerous districts will likely encounter gusty winds paired with light rainfall. These areas include Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Peshawar, and Swabi. The combination of wind and rain could lead to disruptions, especially in hilly and mountainous zones where weather changes tend to be more severe.
Meanwhile, parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to witness partly cloudy skies with occasional light rain during the same timeframe. The regions likely to be affected include Astore, Gilgit, Skardu, Diamer, Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Hattian Bala, Bagh, Haveli, and Poonch. These areas, known for their rugged terrain and tourism significance, might experience weather conditions that could influence travel plans and outdoor activities.
In response to these forecasts, the NDMA is actively coordinating with provincial and local authorities to ensure that timely warnings and preparedness measures are in place. The agency has urged the public to stay updated with the latest weather information and take necessary precautions to minimize risks associated with adverse weather. This includes securing property, avoiding unnecessary travel during severe conditions, and being alert to any emergency announcements.
As Pakistan transitions through this period of unsettled weather, the NDMA’s proactive approach aims to mitigate potential damages and safeguard communities across the affected regions. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and heed official advisories to navigate the upcoming days safely.
