In a tragic incident on Monday, a police officer lost his life after being ambushed by unidentified gunmen near Gandawah in the Jhal Magsi district of Balochistan. The victim, Havaldar Syed Yaqoob Shah, was reportedly on his way back to his native village Kotrah after completing his official duties. He was riding his motorcycle when the assailants opened fire at a location close to Goth Mir Jat on Noorani Road, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Gandawah City police station.
The attack was swift and brutal, with the officer being shot dead instantly at the scene. Following the shooting, the perpetrators fled, taking with them both the officer’s motorcycle and his service weapon. This brazen act has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised serious concerns about the security situation in the region.
Authorities have yet to establish a clear motive behind the killing. It remains uncertain whether the incident was a targeted assassination or a robbery gone wrong. The local police, led by SHO Inspector Zulfiqar Ali Pandrani, have launched a thorough investigation and intensified search operations across multiple areas in an effort to apprehend those responsible. The police have vowed to bring the culprits to justice and restore a sense of safety to the area.
This violent episode comes amid heightened security challenges in Balochistan, where law enforcement agencies are actively engaged in combating militant groups and criminal elements. Just days earlier, security forces conducted two separate intelligence-based operations in the province, resulting in the elimination of fifteen terrorists linked to Indian-backed proxies Fitna al Khwarij and Fitna al Hindustan. These operations underscore the ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and maintain law and order in the volatile region.
On March 5, 2025, an operation in Harnai District targeted a known hideout of Khwarij militants. Security personnel engaged in a fierce firefight, ultimately killing twelve militants. Similarly, another operation in Basima District led to the deaths of three terrorists after a prolonged exchange of gunfire. Authorities also recovered a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the deceased militants, who were involved in numerous acts of terrorism across Balochistan.
These recent developments highlight the precarious security environment in Balochistan, where law enforcement officers like Havaldar Syed Yaqoob Shah continue to face grave risks while performing their duties. The police and military forces remain committed to intensifying their operations against insurgents and criminal networks to ensure the safety of civilians and maintain stability in the province.
