Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Commences Construction of Azeempura Flyover Project

In a significant development for Karachi’s urban infrastructure, Mayor Murtaza Wahab officially laid the foundation stone for the new flyover at the Azeempura intersection on Sunday. This project marks a crucial step towards easing traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest areas. Alongside the flyover, the initiative also includes the extension and improvement of surrounding roads, aiming to enhance overall connectivity and commuter experience.

During his address to the assembled crowd, Mayor Wahab emphasized that construction work on the flyover has already commenced and is expected to be completed within a tight timeframe of 100 days. He highlighted the project’s substantial financial backing, with an estimated budget of 1.477 billion rupees allocated for the development. The flyover itself will stretch approximately 700 meters, providing a vital overpass to facilitate smoother traffic flow, while the adjacent roads will be upgraded as part of the comprehensive plan.

Mayor Wahab also reflected on the administrative continuity in Karachi, noting that despite the city being governed under the same legal framework and authority, the current leadership under the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been able to accelerate progress on infrastructure projects. He contrasted this with previous periods, suggesting that the political will and mandate now in place have translated into tangible improvements on the ground.

Addressing critics, the mayor acknowledged that some individuals have focused solely on negative commentary. However, he urged such voices to recognize the ongoing efforts and results being achieved. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on promises and continuing the momentum of development across Karachi.

Expanding on the broader scope of urban improvements, Mayor Wahab revealed that work is currently underway on 26 different roads throughout the city, reflecting a wide-ranging infrastructure enhancement strategy. Among these projects, the Karimabad Underpass is nearing completion and is slated to open for public use shortly after the Eid festivities, which is expected to significantly alleviate traffic bottlenecks in that area.

Looking ahead, the mayor announced that the city plans to invest between 70 to 75 billion rupees this year alone on various infrastructure projects. One notable upcoming venture includes the construction of a new underpass on Jinnah Avenue, which will be developed in collaboration with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). This partnership aims to ensure high-quality execution and timely completion, further contributing to Karachi’s evolving transport network.
