PM Shehbaz Engages Malaysian and Indonesian Leaders to Ease Middle East Crisis

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached out to his counterparts in Malaysia and Indonesia in a concerted effort to address the escalating tensions in the Middle East. In separate telephone conversations on Thursday, he spoke with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, emphasizing the urgent need for restraint and peaceful dialogue after recent Israeli military actions targeting Iran and other Gulf nations.

The Pakistani premier conveyed his profound concern over the deteriorating situation in the region, which has raised alarms across the international community. He unequivocally condemned the Israeli strikes on Iran, as well as the subsequent attacks on allied Gulf countries, highlighting the dangerous implications these hostilities have on regional stability. Shehbaz Sharif underscored the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and upheld by international law.

During his discussion with Anwar Ibrahim, both leaders concurred that restoring peace and normalcy in the Middle East is paramount and can only be achieved if all parties demonstrate maximum restraint. They agreed on the necessity of working collaboratively, coordinating their diplomatic efforts, and presenting a united front to encourage de-escalation. Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif updated the Malaysian prime minister on recent developments in Afghanistan, highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to combating terrorism and enhancing security both domestically and across the broader region.

Following this, the Pakistani prime minister engaged in a detailed conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. Both leaders expressed shared apprehension over the worsening crisis and reiterated their condemnation of the Israeli attacks. Shehbaz Sharif also briefed President Prabowo on Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic outreach to Gulf countries, aimed at fostering dialogue and mitigating tensions. The two leaders pledged to continue close communication and cooperation in the days ahead, emphasizing the need for all involved parties to resolve disputes through constructive diplomacy rather than military confrontation.

These high-level exchanges reflect Pakistan’s broader foreign policy approach, which prioritizes peaceful conflict resolution and regional stability. The prime minister’s outreach to Malaysia and Indonesia—two influential Muslim-majority nations—demonstrates Islamabad’s commitment to building strategic partnerships that can collectively advocate for calm and dialogue amid volatile geopolitical developments. As tensions in the Middle East remain high, Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement underscores the critical role of international cooperation in preventing further escalation and promoting lasting peace.
