Pakistan is set to officially kick off its Hajj 2026 operations on April 18, marking the beginning of the annual pilgrimage season for thousands of Pakistani Muslims. On this day, the first flight carrying pilgrims will depart for Saudi Arabia, initiating a carefully coordinated effort to facilitate the sacred journey. This announcement comes as the Ministry of Religious Affairs finalizes the logistical framework to ensure a smooth and efficient travel experience for all participants.
The initial phase of the operation will see flights departing from key cities including Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot, and Multan. Detailed schedules for individual flights will be shared with pilgrims in the coming week, allowing them to prepare accordingly. In total, the Hajj 2026 plan involves 468 flights that will transport an estimated 119,000 Pakistani pilgrims to the holy sites in Saudi Arabia, reflecting the country’s significant quota allocation from the Kingdom.
On the very first day of operations, four flights will be directed to Medina, one of Islam’s holiest cities, where many pilgrims prefer to begin their spiritual journey. Flights to Jeddah, the gateway city to Makkah, will commence from May 4, allowing a staggered and organized flow of pilgrims. The entire operation is scheduled to conclude with the final flight departing on May 21, wrapping up nearly a month of continuous air travel dedicated to this religious obligation.
Flights for Hajj 2026 will operate from eight major urban centers across Pakistan, ensuring accessibility for pilgrims nationwide. Islamabad will see the highest number of flights at 129, followed closely by Karachi with 124 flights. Lahore will contribute 104 flights, while Multan, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Quetta, and Sukkur will also serve as departure points with varying numbers of flights. This widespread network reflects the government’s commitment to facilitating the pilgrimage for a diverse cross-section of Pakistani society.
Authorities are currently finalizing arrangements to guarantee that the entire operation proceeds in an orderly and timely fashion. This includes coordination with airlines, airport officials, and Saudi authorities to manage the large influx of pilgrims and to minimize any potential disruptions. The goal is to provide a seamless travel experience that respects the spiritual significance of the journey and the safety of all participants.
In preparation for the pilgrimage, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony conducted the second phase of training sessions for Hajj 2026 pilgrims earlier this year at the Haji Camp in Islamabad. These sessions aim to equip pilgrims with comprehensive knowledge about the various rituals, safety precautions, and mandatory religious duties (Faraiz and Wajibat) associated with Hajj and Umrah. Such training is crucial in ensuring that pilgrims perform their obligations correctly and safely during the pilgrimage.
During the training, Deputy Director Umar Butt provided detailed briefings on administrative procedures, departure protocols, and accommodation arrangements in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
