Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has once again underscored that sustainable peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan hinges on the Afghan Taliban regime completely abandoning its support for terrorist groups. This firm stance was conveyed during his recent visit to Wana in South Waziristan, where he conducted a thorough assessment of the security landscape and operational readiness along Pakistan’s western frontier. The statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday highlighted the critical link between regional stability and the Taliban’s commitment to cease backing terrorism.
During his visit, Field Marshal Munir was provided with an extensive briefing covering the current security environment, ongoing intelligence-driven military operations, and the strategic measures implemented to manage and secure the border effectively. Particular attention was given to Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, a key military campaign aimed at neutralizing terrorist threats in the region. The COAS was updated on the latest developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, emphasizing the persistent challenges posed by militant groups operating from Afghan soil.
In addition to reviewing operational details, the CDF engaged directly with officers and soldiers stationed in forward positions. He praised their unwavering dedication, professionalism, and high morale despite the continuous skirmishes and security threats. His commendation reflected the army’s steadfast commitment to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and maintaining peace and stability in this volatile border region. The troops’ resilience and readiness were acknowledged as vital components in the broader effort to safeguard the country.
Field Marshal Munir also made it clear that the use of Afghan territory by groups such as Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan to carry out terrorist activities against Pakistan is absolutely intolerable. He stressed that Pakistan would take all necessary and decisive actions to counter and eliminate threats originating from across the border. This firm message reinforces Pakistan’s resolve to protect its national security interests and prevent its soil from being exploited by hostile elements.
Expressing confidence in the Pakistan Army’s preparedness, the CDF lauded the synergy and operational effectiveness of the formations deployed along the western border. His visit included a solemn moment at the Shuhada Monument, where he laid a floral wreath in honor of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending the nation. By offering Fateha, Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed that the sacrifices of these brave soldiers remain the foundation of Pakistan’s security and resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.
Upon arrival in Wana, the Field Marshal was warmly received by the Corps Commander of Peshawar, reflecting the importance of this visit in strengthening military coordination and morale. This high-profile inspection underscores the military leadership’s focus on maintaining vigilance and operational excellence along a border that continues to be a hotspot for cross-border militancy and security threats. The visit comes at a time when regional dynamics are shifting, making Pakistan’s border security and counterterrorism efforts more crucial than ever.
