Kuwait Extends Visit Visas Automatically Amid Exceptional Circumstances

The Ministry of Interior in Kuwait has taken a significant step to ease travel and residency concerns by announcing an automatic extension of all visit visas for an additional month. This decision comes as part of the government’s response to the exceptional challenges currently confronting the country. The extension applies to all visit entry visas that have either already expired or are set to expire within the ongoing period.

Starting from Saturday, 28 February 2026, the extension will be implemented automatically through Kuwait’s electronic visa management system. This means that visitors and expatriates holding visit visas will not be required to physically visit residency offices or submit any formal applications to benefit from the extension. The move aims to reduce administrative burdens and provide relief to those affected by the prevailing circumstances.

In addition to the visa extension, the Ministry has granted an extra three-month absence permit to expatriates who are currently outside Kuwait and have exceeded their allowed absence period. This measure is designed to accommodate residents who have been unable to return due to travel restrictions or other unforeseen difficulties. Like the visa extension, this absence permit renewal will also be processed automatically through the electronic system, eliminating the need for in-person visits or paperwork.

Importantly, the Ministry has announced a full waiver of all fees and fines that would normally be associated with overstaying or visa expiry during this period. This exemption underscores the government’s understanding and support for residents and visitors facing disruptions. It also reflects a broader effort to maintain stability and goodwill among the expatriate community during these trying times.

The Ministry of Interior has further indicated that these extensions and waivers may be prolonged depending on how the situation in Kuwait evolves. Authorities have urged the public and expatriates to stay informed by regularly checking official communication channels for any updates related to visa and residency regulations. The Ministry concluded its announcement with a message of solidarity, praying for the safety and well-being of Kuwait and all individuals residing within its borders.
