Sahibzada Farhan Climbs to Second in ICC T20I Rankings After Stellar World Cup Performance

Pakistan’s dynamic opener Sahibzada Farhan has made a remarkable leap in the latest ICC T20 International batting rankings, advancing to the second spot following an extraordinary display at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. His stellar performance throughout the tournament has significantly closed the distance between him and the current top-ranked batter, India’s Abhishek Sharma, who continues to hold the number one position despite a subdued campaign.

Farhan’s exploits with the bat were nothing short of historic, as he amassed an impressive total of 383 runs at an exceptional average of 76.60. This tally stands as the highest number of runs scored by any player in a single edition of the T20 World Cup, underscoring his dominance on the global stage. Moreover, he etched his name in the record books by becoming the first cricketer to register two centuries in one T20 World Cup tournament, a feat that highlights his consistency and ability to perform under pressure.

Thanks to this outstanding form, the right-handed batsman surged up the rankings, earning 848 rating points and moving up one position to claim second place. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma, despite a relatively quiet tournament, managed to retain his top ranking, while England’s Phil Salt dropped to third, reflecting the shifting dynamics among the world’s leading T20 batters.

While Farhan’s rise has been meteoric, other Pakistani batsmen experienced some setbacks in the rankings. Saim Ayub and Babar Azam each slipped one spot, now positioned at 35th and 37th respectively. Pakistan’s T20 captain Salman Ali Agha also faced a decline, falling three places to 41st. However, there was a silver lining for Pakistan as Fakhar Zaman made a significant leap, climbing 17 places to reach 71st after his explosive 84-run innings against Sri Lanka in the final Super Eights match. Zaman’s current rating stands at 481 points, reflecting his valuable contribution to the team.

Turning to the bowling rankings, Pakistan’s young spinner Abrar Ahmed made notable progress by moving up two places to third with 736 rating points. This advancement brings him closer to India’s Varun Chakaravarthy, who remains at the summit of the bowlers’ list. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan continues to hold the second position, maintaining his reputation as one of the world’s premier T20 bowlers. Mohammad Nawaz retained his 12th position, while pacer Salman Mirza dropped three places to 21st. Shaheen Shah Afridi also saw a decline, slipping four spots to 35th with 602 points.

Other Pakistani bowlers such as Usman Tariq and Sufiyan Muqeem held steady at 55th and 60th positions respectively. Saim Ayub, who also appears in the bowling rankings, fell to 67th. Leg-spinner Shadab Khan experienced a significant drop, falling seven places to 72nd, while fast bowler Haris Rauf slid three spots to 84th. Abbas Afridi currently occupies the 98th position with 415 points, indicating room for improvement.

In the all-rounders’ category, Saim Ayub’s slight decline by one position to third allowed India’s Hardik Pandya to advance to second place. Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza continues to lead the all-rounder rankings, showcasing his all-around capabilities. Mohammad Nawaz improved his standing by climbing one spot to eighth, whereas Shadab Khan dropped to 22nd. Faheem Ashraf and Salman Ali Agha both slipped three places to 55th and 56th respectively, and Shaheen Afridi fell two places to 65th.

Overall, Sahibzada Farhan’s rise in the rankings reflects Pakistan’s growing strength and depth in the T20 format, particularly following a World Cup campaign that saw individual brilliance and team resilience. As the cricketing world looks ahead, the performances of these players will be crucial in shaping Pakistan’s prospects in upcoming international fixtures.
