The medical evaluation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has recently been completed at Adiala Jail, where he is currently held. The examination involved a team of doctors from prominent medical institutions, including Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Shifa International Hospital. This follow-up check-up was particularly focused on assessing the condition of Imran Khan’s eyesight, which has been a subject of concern for both his family and supporters.
Among the specialists involved were leading ophthalmologists Dr. Arif and Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, who conducted a comprehensive series of eye tests. These assessments aimed to evaluate the progress of Imran Khan’s vision since his previous medical examinations. The doctors reportedly performed multiple diagnostic procedures to determine the extent of healing and any remaining issues. Initial indications suggest that there has been some improvement in his eyesight, which marks a positive development compared to earlier reports.
Despite these medical findings, serious apprehensions remain regarding the former prime minister’s overall health and the adequacy of the medical care he is receiving while incarcerated. Earlier in the day, Aleema Khan, Imran Khan’s sister, publicly voiced her deep worries about the situation. She emphasized that the health of the PTI founder remains the family’s highest priority and criticized the government’s handling of his treatment. Aleema highlighted that during the last check-up, Imran Khan himself expressed that his eye condition had not significantly improved, contradicting official statements about his recovery.
She further revealed that his eye is still approximately 90 percent unhealed, and the family has yet to receive a detailed medical report outlining the findings and future treatment plans. Aleema Khan expressed fears that the untreated condition could potentially jeopardize the health of his other eye, raising the stakes for urgent and effective medical intervention. In light of these concerns, she demanded that Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital, where he could receive more comprehensive and specialized care.
Adding to the family’s frustration, Aleema Khan criticized the government for rejecting doctors recommended by the family and instead appointing its own medical team to conduct examinations within the jail premises. She pointed out that one of the government-appointed doctors, initially suggested by the family, abruptly ceased communication with the family’s medical representatives, fueling suspicions about the transparency and impartiality of the medical process. Furthermore, Aleema noted that while the family of Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s former spouse, was allowed access inside the jail, they were denied permission to meet with Imran Khan himself.
In response to these ongoing issues, senior lawyer Latif Khosa filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking judicial intervention to ensure that Imran Khan receives independent medical evaluations and proper treatment without any further delay. Aleema Khan reiterated the urgent need for the government to facilitate unrestricted medical access and to prioritize the former prime minister’s health above all else. The situation continues to draw significant public attention, highlighting the broader concerns over the treatment of political prisoners and the transparency of medical care provided in custody.
