ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chairman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), met with Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam to express his firm condemnation of recent US and Israeli military actions targeting Iran. During this significant diplomatic engagement, Maulana Fazlur Rehman also extended heartfelt condolences on the demise of Iran’s Supreme Leader, underscoring the deep respect and solidarity shared with the Iranian nation during this period of mourning.
In the course of his visit to the Iranian embassy, the JUI-F leader recorded his sympathies in the official condolence book, reflecting the close ties between Pakistan’s religious political leadership and Iran. He articulated his sorrow over the loss of a prominent figure who had a profound influence on the region’s political and religious landscape. This gesture was not only a mark of respect but also a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s support for Iran amid ongoing regional challenges.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman did not hold back in his criticism of what he termed as aggressive and unjustified attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran. He highlighted the historical context of the conflict, pointing out that Zionist forces, backed by European powers, had previously occupied Palestine, resulting in decades of unrest and suffering. He warned that the region continues to be fraught with tension and conflict, which threatens the stability of the entire Middle East.
Meanwhile, tensions remain elevated as Iran has firmly rejected recent claims made by the United States regarding ongoing negotiations. Iranian officials have dismissed reports suggesting that talks were underway or close to fruition, labeling such assertions as entirely fabricated. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson explicitly stated that Tehran had turned down a purported final-stage offer from the US, emphasizing that all talk of negotiations was false and misleading.
The spokesperson further challenged statements from US officials, including those by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which alleged Israeli involvement or portrayed Iran as an immediate threat. This rhetoric was countered by pointing to contradictory information from the Pentagon, which reportedly found no direct threat from Iran to the United States. The Iranian official rhetorically questioned whether Iran had launched attacks on US soil or targeted the White House, underscoring the irony of accusations leveled against Tehran while hundreds of American military bases encircle the country.
Despite the heightened state of alert, Iranian authorities stressed that daily life within the country continues with relative normalcy. President Masoud Pezeshkian reassured that all provincial governors remain in close communication with the central government, maintaining order and governance. He described the unity of the Iranian people as their most valuable strength in facing external pressures and internal challenges alike.
This exchange between JUI-F leadership and Iranian diplomats comes at a time when regional dynamics are increasingly volatile, with the potential to impact Pakistan’s own security and diplomatic relations. The solidarity expressed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman reflects broader sentiments within Pakistan’s political and religious spheres, which often view developments in Iran through the lens of shared cultural, religious, and geopolitical interests.
