The Judicial Commission investigating the devastating Gul Plaza tragedy has taken a significant step by summoning several ambulance drivers associated with prominent rescue organizations. This move aims to gather detailed testimonies from those directly involved in the emergency response during the incident. The commission has specifically issued notices to multiple personnel from the Edhi Foundation and Chhipa Welfare, two of Pakistan’s leading humanitarian organizations.

In a recent development, four ambulance drivers along with one staff member from the Edhi Foundation have been formally called to appear before the commission. These individuals were part of the team that managed the critical task of transporting the injured and deceased victims from the disaster site to various hospitals across Karachi. Their firsthand accounts are expected to shed light on the rescue operations and the challenges faced during the aftermath of the tragedy.

Similarly, the commission has summoned eighteen ambulance drivers from Chhipa Welfare, underscoring the importance of their role in the emergency response efforts. Chhipa Welfare has long been recognized for its swift and efficient rescue services throughout the city, and the commission seeks to understand the full scope of their involvement during the Gul Plaza collapse. The drivers are scheduled to present themselves on March 5, as per the official notices issued.

The Gul Plaza incident, which shook Karachi and the nation at large, resulted in significant loss of life and injuries, prompting a comprehensive judicial inquiry. Rescue organizations like Edhi Foundation and Chhipa Welfare were among the first responders, playing a crucial role in saving lives and providing immediate medical assistance. The commission’s decision to call these drivers highlights the ongoing efforts to piece together a clear timeline and assess the effectiveness of the emergency response.

As the investigation progresses, the testimonies of these ambulance drivers and staff members will be instrumental in understanding the sequence of events and identifying any lapses or areas for improvement in disaster management protocols. This inquiry not only aims to deliver justice for the victims but also to enhance future preparedness for such emergencies in Pakistan’s urban centers.
