Muzaffarabad: Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Khushal Khan and Inspector General of Police Liaqat Ali Malik announced on Monday that the situation in the region is now stable, following unsuccessful efforts by armed groups to disturb peace and challenge state authority.
During a press briefing in Muzaffarabad, Khushal Khan acknowledged that the past year had seen several troubling incidents. He paid tribute to police officers who were either martyred or injured while upholding law and order in the region.
He highlighted that these armed factions had repeatedly tried to unsettle the peace under the pretext of representing public demands. “Every year, such groups attempt to create unrest,” Khushal noted, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring these troublemakers.
Khushal further explained that authorities successfully contained these groups within a limited area and swiftly implemented measures to restore peace and reaffirm the government’s authority. In some cases, restraint was exercised to maintain calm, with no FIRs registered during certain incidents.
The Chief Secretary also mentioned that the government had addressed public concerns and ensured the enforcement of agreements aimed at sustaining peace.
Inspector General Liaqat Ali Malik added that these groups sought to disrupt peace by posing as advocates for public rights, while also attempting attacks on government property and law enforcement personnel. “Once again, there was an effort to hold the state hostage,” Malik stated, noting attempts to undermine the electoral process as well.
He confirmed that these efforts failed and that peace has been reestablished throughout Azad Kashmir. Malik honored the sacrifices of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, stressing that their efforts would not be forgotten.
He also condemned the groups for killing police personnel and desecrating their bodies. “The government’s writ has been firmly established in Azad Kashmir,” the IG affirmed.
Both officials concluded by assuring that the administration and police remain vigilant and committed to ongoing measures to safeguard peace, public property, and state institutions.
