On Monday, President Asif Ali Zardari delivered a powerful address to a joint session of Pakistan’s parliament, where he issued a stern warning to India. He urged the neighboring country to abandon its aggressive stance and engage in meaningful dialogue, cautioning that failure to do so could lead to another humiliating setback for India. The president underscored that Pakistan has only revealed a small portion of its defensive capabilities so far, signaling a readiness to respond decisively if provoked.

President Zardari’s speech came amid heightened tensions in the region, with ongoing disputes over Jammu and Kashmir remaining a central issue. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people, emphasizing that the country will continue to offer its full diplomatic and moral backing to their just cause. This stance reflects Pakistan’s long-standing position on Kashmir, which remains a flashpoint in Indo-Pak relations.

During the parliamentary session, opposition members voiced their discontent with the president’s remarks, chanting slogans demanding his resignation. Despite the protests, the gathering included key figures such as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, provincial governors, diplomats, and other senior officials, highlighting the significance of the address. The president took the opportunity to commend the Pakistan Armed Forces for their professionalism and discipline, particularly in recent military operations named “Marka-e-Haq” and “Ghazab lil-Haq,” which targeted threats along both eastern and western borders.

President Zardari made it clear that while Pakistan prefers peace, it remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty. He stressed that war is always a last resort but warned that the country will not tolerate any attempts—whether by domestic or foreign actors—to use neighboring territories as a base to destabilize Pakistan’s internal security. This declaration serves as a strong message to all regional actors about Pakistan’s resolve to maintain its territorial integrity and peace.

Expanding beyond bilateral issues, the president addressed broader regional concerns, condemning the ongoing conflict in Iran and the recent attacks in the Gulf region. He called for restraint, dialogue, and respect for the sovereignty of all nations involved, highlighting Pakistan’s desire for stability in its neighborhood. Additionally, President Zardari touched upon Pakistan’s foreign relations, noting the importance of maintaining strong ties with global partners such as the United States, China, Gulf countries, and Bangladesh, while reiterating Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.

Turning to domestic affairs, the president outlined several key priorities, including economic reforms, provincial autonomy, and development initiatives in Balochistan. He emphasized the need for energy sector improvements, poverty reduction programs, and the empowerment of women as essential components of Pakistan’s progress. President Zardari urged lawmakers to focus on safeguarding national sovereignty, enhancing anti-terrorism efforts, and promoting inclusive economic growth that benefits all segments of society.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s democratic journey, the president paid tribute to the foundational leaders of the nation, including Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He highlighted the significance of the 18th Amendment, which restored the presidency’s role as a symbol of national unity and the guardian of the constitution. In closing, President Zardari called on all political stakeholders to work together to preserve Pakistan’s unity, protect its borders, strengthen economic stability, and create opportunities for every citizen to thrive.
