PCB Imposes Rs5 Million Fine on Each Player After T20 World Cup Disappointment

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a stern stance in the aftermath of the national team’s underwhelming performance at the T20 World Cup 2026. In a decisive move, the board has levied a hefty fine of Rs 5 million on every player who represented Pakistan in the tournament. This financial penalty reflects the PCB’s growing frustration with the team’s inability to meet expectations on cricket’s global stage.

In addition to the fines, the PCB has conveyed a clear message to the players that future financial rewards and incentives will be closely linked to their on-field performances. This shift signals a more results-oriented approach by the board, aiming to instill greater accountability and competitiveness within the squad. The governing body is also actively contemplating significant changes to the team’s composition, including the possibility of removing some senior players from the T20 setup. Among those reportedly under scrutiny is captain Salman Agha, whose leadership and suitability for the fast-paced T20 format have come under intense criticism.

Pakistan’s disappointing campaign came to an end on Saturday when the team failed to advance to the semi-finals, a result that has sparked widespread debate among fans and cricket experts alike. Observers pointed out several key issues that contributed to the team’s downfall, such as sluggish batting tempos that failed to keep up with the aggressive demands of Twenty20 cricket. Moreover, the selection and utilization of all-rounders were questioned, with many feeling that the players chosen did not possess the necessary skills or form to impact matches decisively.

Former wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal offered a candid assessment of Pakistan’s standing in the T20 format, highlighting a significant gap between Pakistan and the world’s leading teams like India, West Indies, South Africa, and England. Akmal remarked that while other nations have adapted and evolved their strategies to meet the unique challenges of T20 cricket, Pakistan’s approach remains outdated and ineffective. He likened the disparity to a scenario where rival teams are playing on the moon while Pakistan is still on earth, emphasizing the vast difference in standards. him, Pakistan tends to dominate only against less formidable opponents but struggles consistently against top-tier cricketing nations.

It is worth noting that Pakistan entered the tournament with high hopes, especially after a convincing 3-0 series sweep against Australia in the lead-up to the World Cup. This strong pre-tournament form had raised expectations among supporters and analysts that Pakistan could make a deep run in the competition. However, the team’s inability to translate that momentum into success during the World Cup has led to calls for a comprehensive review and restructuring of the squad and coaching strategies.

As the PCB deliberates on the next steps, the cricketing fraternity awaits announcements regarding potential leadership changes and the introduction of fresh talent aimed at revitalizing Pakistan’s T20 prospects. The board’s firm response underscores the urgency to rebuild a team capable of competing with the best in the world and restoring Pakistan’s reputation in the shortest format of the game.
