Islamabad Traffic Police Restrict Access to Red Zone, Advise Alternate Routes

In a recent development aimed at bolstering security measures, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have announced restrictions on entry points to the capital’s sensitive Red Zone. Effective immediately, access to this high-security area will be limited exclusively to two main corridors: Margalla Road and the route passing through the Marriott Hotel. All other entry points into the Red Zone have been temporarily sealed to ensure enhanced safety and smooth management of traffic flow.

The decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the federal capital, particularly around key government buildings and diplomatic enclaves located within the Red Zone. An official from the ITP emphasized that these measures are necessary to prevent any untoward incidents and to facilitate better control over vehicular movement in this critical area. The official also highlighted that these restrictions will remain in place until further notice, signaling a sustained focus on security in the region.

Commuters traveling towards the Red Zone are being strongly advised to use the designated routes to avoid unnecessary delays. For those approaching from Club Road, the recommended path involves proceeding through Kashmir Chowk, then onto Srinagar Highway, followed by Seventh Avenue, before finally joining Margalla Road leading into the Red Zone. Similarly, motorists coming from Bhara Kahu are instructed to follow the same alternative route via Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road.

The ITP has called on all drivers and pedestrians to cooperate fully with traffic authorities and adhere strictly to these new guidelines. Compliance will not only help in minimizing congestion but also contribute to the overall security framework established around the Red Zone. Authorities have assured the public that these measures are temporary and are being implemented with the aim of safeguarding both residents and government institutions.

For those seeking real-time updates or requiring assistance, the Islamabad Traffic Police have made multiple channels available. Citizens can reach out through the Police Emergency Helpline “Pucar-15” or the dedicated Traffic Helpline at 1915. Additionally, the ITP FM radio station at 92.4 MHz continues to broadcast live traffic updates, providing timely information to commuters navigating the city.

It is worth noting that the Red Zone encompasses some of Islamabad’s most important administrative and diplomatic offices, making it a focal point for security operations. The current restrictions reflect a broader strategy to maintain order and ensure the uninterrupted functioning of government activities in the capital. As the situation evolves, the ITP remains vigilant and ready to adjust traffic management plans to best serve the public interest.
