Islamabad Traffic Police Restricts Access to Red Zone, Advises Alternative Routes

In a recent announcement, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) declared that access to the capital’s highly sensitive Red Zone will now be restricted exclusively to two main routes: Margalla Road and the path passing through the Marriott Hotel. This decision comes as part of enhanced security measures aimed at safeguarding key government and diplomatic installations located within this critical area.

The Red Zone, known for housing important government offices, foreign embassies, and diplomatic missions, has long been a focal point for security operations. Given its significance, authorities have intensified efforts to control and monitor traffic flow to prevent any untoward incidents. Consequently, all other entry points leading into the Red Zone have been temporarily sealed off until further notice, a move that is expected to affect daily commuters and visitors alike.

To assist motorists in navigating these changes, the ITP has provided detailed guidance on alternative routes. For those approaching the Red Zone from Club Road, the recommended path now involves traveling via Kashmir Chowk, then onto Srinagar Highway, followed by Seventh Avenue, before finally joining Margalla Road to enter the restricted area. This detour is designed to streamline traffic and reduce congestion while maintaining security protocols.

Similarly, commuters coming from Bhara Kahu are advised to follow the same route—proceeding through Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, and Seventh Avenue before accessing Margalla Road. These directions are intended to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles and minimize disruption during peak hours. The ITP has emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to these instructions to avoid unnecessary delays and complications.

Authorities have also called upon the public to cooperate fully with traffic officials stationed at various checkpoints. Motorists are encouraged to remain patient and comply with all security checks as part of the broader effort to maintain law and order within the capital. For those seeking real-time updates or requiring assistance, the ITP has made multiple communication channels available, including the Police Emergency Helpline “Pucar-15,” the Traffic Helpline at 1915, and live broadcasts on ITP FM 92.4.

These measures highlight the ongoing commitment of Islamabad’s law enforcement agencies to balance security concerns with the everyday needs of the city’s residents and visitors. As the situation evolves, further announcements regarding access and traffic management are expected, and commuters are advised to stay informed through official channels to plan their journeys accordingly.
