Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that pressure from the United States has fostered enhanced cooperation and closer relations among Muslim countries during his meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran on Tuesday.
The discussions centered on bilateral ties, regional developments, and efforts to finalize agreements aimed at expanding collaboration between Pakistan and Iran. Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of ongoing engagement between the two nations, noting that Pakistan and Iran could deepen their cooperation across multiple sectors.
He described both countries as influential regional players endowed with significant human capital and rich natural resources. Pezeshkian suggested that by combining their strengths and supporting each other, Pakistan and Iran could fulfill many of their needs through greater reliance on local and regional assets.
Meanwhile, Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to broadening cooperation with Iran in areas such as trade, the economy, tourism, and political affairs. He also expressed Islamabad’s interest in enhancing collaboration in cultural and scientific fields. The interior minister remarked that the current state of Pakistan-Iran relations was unprecedented in its strength.
Earlier in the day, Naqvi met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to review bilateral relations and recent regional developments. Both sides assessed progress in ongoing cooperative initiatives across various sectors. Momeni praised Pakistan’s sustained efforts to promote regional peace and stability, highlighting the contributions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Naqvi expressed optimism that the ties between the two countries would continue to strengthen in the near future.
In a significant development, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei dismissed rumors that Naqvi’s visit involved carrying a special message or proposal from the United States. Speaking in a televised interview, Baghaei clarified that the visit was conducted strictly within the framework of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran.
He acknowledged Pakistan’s role in regional mediation efforts and noted that Islamabad could discuss regional issues. However, he emphasized that there was no indication that Naqvi was delivering any specific communication from Washington.
Prior to this, some regional media outlets had speculated that Naqvi’s trip might involve conveying messages from the US government to Iran, but these claims were refuted by Iranian officials.
