IHC Petition Demands Hospital Transfer for PTI Founder’s Urgent Eye Treatment

ISLAMABAD: A legal plea has been submitted to the Islamabad High Court urging the immediate transfer of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder to a hospital for critical eye treatment. The petition, filed by senior lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa, emphasizes the urgent need for specialized medical care to address the worsening condition of the PTI leader’s eyesight.

The petitioner has specifically requested that the court order the transfer of the 73-year-old political figure from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital, one of the country’s leading medical institutions. The petition highlights that the PTI founder has been incarcerated for an extended period and has been denied the opportunity to meet with family members and friends due to restrictions imposed over the past four to five months.

Further details in the petition reveal that a medical report submitted to the Supreme Court disclosed the severity of the PTI founder’s eye ailment, noting that his vision has deteriorated to just 15 percent. This alarming decline has raised serious concerns about his health and the adequacy of medical care available within the prison system.

It is important to note that the Supreme Court has not yet resolved the matter and has instead directed that the case be brought before the Islamabad High Court for further consideration. In light of this, the petitioner has urged the High Court to intervene promptly and facilitate the transfer to ensure the PTI founder receives treatment from qualified specialists. The plea also insists on allowing access to the leader’s personal doctors and family members during the treatment period, underscoring the need for comprehensive medical and emotional support.

Moreover, the petition calls for the provision of verified copies of all medical examinations and test results to the legal team representing the PTI founder. This transparency is deemed essential to monitor the progress of his treatment and to safeguard his rights while in custody.

The case has drawn significant attention given the political stature of the individual involved and the implications of his health condition on ongoing legal and political developments. The Islamabad High Court’s decision on this petition will be closely watched by political observers and human rights advocates alike, as it touches upon the broader issues of prisoner welfare and access to adequate healthcare within the justice system.
