Pakistani Cyber Unit Hacks Indian ABP News Channel in Retaliatory Strike

On Monday, March 2, 2026, a cyber group identifying itself as Pakistan’s cyber force reportedly launched a hacking operation targeting the Indian television channel ABP News. This move was described by the group as a retaliatory cyberattack, signaling a new front in the ongoing digital rivalry between the two neighboring countries. Clips circulating widely on social media showed the channel’s broadcast interrupted by slogans proclaiming “Pakistan Zindabad,” a patriotic chant expressing national pride.

The hacked broadcast briefly displayed visuals related to the Pakistan Army, including excerpts from a speech delivered by Pakistan Army Chief Syed Asim Munir. These images and audio segments appeared on the Indian news channel’s screen for a short duration, creating a stir among viewers and netizens alike. The incident quickly gained traction online, with many users sharing the footage and claiming that the channel’s live feed had been compromised.

Despite the widespread dissemination of these clips, ABP News has not issued any official statement confirming the breach or detailing the extent of the disruption. It remains unclear how long the unauthorized access to the channel’s broadcast lasted or what measures were taken to regain control. The lack of immediate clarification has led to speculation and heightened concern over the security of media outlets in the region.

This cyber intrusion comes amid escalating digital hostilities between India and Pakistan, where recent weeks have seen a surge in cyber incidents targeting media houses and government-affiliated platforms on both sides. Experts in cybersecurity note that during periods of political or military tension, media organizations often become symbolic targets due to their visibility and influence. Television channels and online platforms serve as critical communication tools, making them attractive targets for groups aiming to send strategic messages or disrupt information flow.

Indian authorities have so far refrained from releasing a comprehensive statement addressing the hacking episode, while Pakistani officials have also remained silent on the claims made by the cyber group. Observers and analysts are urging caution, emphasizing the need for thorough technical investigations to verify the details and sequence of events surrounding the alleged attack.

The incident underscores the increasing significance of cyber operations in the complex rivalry between India and Pakistan. As digital platforms become integral to public discourse and national narratives, they are emerging as new battlegrounds where information warfare and strategic messaging are conducted alongside traditional diplomatic and military channels. This episode serves as a reminder of the evolving nature of conflict in the digital age, where cyber capabilities can have immediate and visible impacts on public perception and national security.
