Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has publicly conveyed his profound sorrow following the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In a heartfelt statement, the prime minister underscored the deep sympathy shared by both the government and the people of Pakistan with the Iranian nation during this difficult time. He described the loss as a significant blow not only to Iran but to the wider region, emphasizing Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Iranian people in their grief.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the prime minister expressed serious concern over the apparent violations of international laws and established diplomatic norms. He reminded that it is a fundamental principle of international conduct that heads of state and government must be protected from targeted attacks. The recent events, therefore, represent a troubling breach of these long-standing conventions. In his statement, Shehbaz Sharif prayed for divine strength and patience for the Iranian people to help them endure this profound and irreparable loss.

In light of the escalating tensions following the attacks attributed to the United States and Israel, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to postpone his scheduled official visit to Russia. This trip, which was planned to include a high-level delegation, was intended to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss key strategic issues. However, Pakistan has formally informed Moscow that the current volatile situation in the region makes it impractical to proceed with the visit at this moment. This decision reflects Pakistan’s cautious approach amid the unfolding crisis and its commitment to regional stability.

Meanwhile, the prime minister has called for an urgent meeting to assess the evolving security landscape in the region. This high-level gathering will bring together senior military and intelligence officials to thoroughly review recent developments in neighboring Afghanistan, Iran, and other adjacent countries. The discussions will focus on evaluating the implications of the current unrest and formulating Pakistan’s strategic response to ensure national and regional security. The government aims to develop clear policy guidelines in the coming days to navigate the complex geopolitical environment effectively.

Furthermore, the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also determine Pakistan’s official representation at the funeral ceremonies of Ayatollah Khamenei. Given the significance of the event and its potential impact on regional diplomacy, careful consideration is being given to the level and nature of Pakistan’s participation. This reflects the country’s respect for Iran’s leadership and its commitment to maintaining strong bilateral relations during this sensitive period.

Overall, Pakistan’s response to the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader illustrates the country’s dedication to upholding international norms and fostering peace in a region marked by ongoing challenges. As the situation continues to develop, Pakistan remains vigilant and engaged, seeking to balance its diplomatic priorities with the imperative of regional security and solidarity.
