Groundwater Emerges on Islamabad Expressway Following Heavy Rains

Recent heavy rainfall has brought relief to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, creating pleasant weather conditions. However, the downpour also led to groundwater surfacing at multiple points in the capital city.

Notably, a spring has appeared in the middle of the Islamabad Expressway near the Zero Point Interchange. In response, teams from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) have been deployed to manage and control the water flow.

Sardar Khan Zamri, Director General of Water Islamabad, clarified that no water supply line leaks were detected at the site. He confirmed that the water emerging on the surface is groundwater that has resurfaced due to the recent heavy rains.

“This is spring water that has appeared after a long period,” Zamri stated. He personally inspected the location with his team and verified that the CDA does not have any water supply infrastructure at the affected spot on the Islamabad Expressway.

In addition to the spring on the expressway, groundwater has also started to emerge from various points beneath the hill adjacent to the bridge. Similar occurrences have been observed in nearby hilly areas beneath the monument.

In a significant development, Zamri recalled a similar incident in 2011 when water surfaced at the same location but receded naturally after a few days.

The CDA is actively working to mitigate the issue by cleaning drainage lines alongside the road and conducting deeper excavations to relieve water pressure and prevent further surfacing.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast partly cloudy skies and pleasant weather for Peshawar, with temperatures expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius and humidity at 75%. Thunderstorms and rain are predicted for Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, and several other districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are expected in Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, and Kurram. Rainfall is also anticipated in Orakzai, Hangu, Kohat, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan. The PMD has issued warnings for potential flash floods and landslides in some upper districts during this period.

On the previous day, Cherat recorded the highest rainfall in the region at 30 millimeters, followed by Parachinar with 29mm, Balakot 24mm, and Saidu Sharif 22mm. Other areas such as Malakand, Dir, Bannu, Kakul, and Takht Bhai also received notable rainfall.

In Karachi, temperatures are expected to range between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius with humidity around 80%. Lahore is forecast to experience hot and humid conditions with clear skies, temperatures between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius, and similar humidity levels. The PMD has also predicted rain for Lahore.
