The death toll from a missile attack launched by Iran on Sunday in the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh has climbed to at least nine, making it the deadliest strike in Israel since the outbreak of the ongoing war. Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the scene, where the missile had directly hit a residential building, causing widespread destruction and casualties.

The Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency medical service, confirmed the fatalities and reported that 28 additional individuals sustained injuries of varying severity. The blast left the targeted structure severely damaged, with its roof collapsed and concrete slabs twisted alongside exposed iron reinforcements. This level of destruction underscores the missile’s devastating impact on the densely populated neighborhood.

Rescue operations mobilized immediately following the strike, with dozens of Israeli emergency personnel rushing to the site. Photographers present at the scene documented the grim reality as teams carefully extracted bodies from beneath the rubble. Rescue workers brought specialized equipment to aid in locating survivors trapped under the debris, highlighting the urgency and complexity of the search efforts.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as frightened residents emerged from damaged buildings, many in shock and distress. Yehuda Shlomo, a paramedic with MDA, recounted the harrowing conditions upon his arrival, noting the heavy structural damage, thick smoke filling the air, and the overwhelming number of casualties requiring immediate assistance. His account paints a vivid picture of the emergency response amid the turmoil.

The attack on Beit Shemesh represents a significant escalation in the conflict, with Iranian forces directly targeting Israeli civilian areas. The strike has not only caused tragic loss of life but also heightened tensions across the region. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the damage and are working tirelessly to provide aid to those affected. Meanwhile, rescue teams persist in their efforts to find any remaining survivors beneath the wreckage, underscoring the ongoing human toll of the conflict.
