The Sindh government has escalated security measures across Karachi in response to a violent protest outside the United States Consulate that resulted in multiple casualties. An official directive from the Sindh Home Department ordered a comprehensive tightening of security protocols around all foreign diplomatic missions within the city. This step aims to prevent any further unrest and safeguard diplomatic personnel and sensitive installations amid rising tensions.

Security forces, including the police and paramilitary Rangers, have been instructed to intensify their vigilance and increase patrolling around consulates and embassies. The authorities are focused on maintaining law and order while ensuring that no untoward incidents occur in the wake of the recent demonstration. These precautionary measures reflect the government’s commitment to protecting foreign missions and upholding Karachi’s reputation as a secure metropolitan hub.

The protest outside the US Consulate turned deadly when clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement escalated. hospital records, nine individuals lost their lives, and dozens more sustained injuries during the confrontation. The Civil Hospital Karachi received 45 casualties, including those who were critically wounded by gunfire. The deceased have been identified as Kazim, Mubarak, Kazim Abbas, Adeel, Sajid Ali, Khawar Abbas, Muhammad Ali, along with one unidentified person. Victims ranged in age from 18 to 50 years, all suffering from bullet wounds sustained during the chaos.

The unrest reportedly began after news circulated about the alleged assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel strike on Iran, which sparked outrage among protestors. A large crowd gathered near the consulate, chanting slogans and attempting to breach the consulate’s perimeter. Law enforcement responded with tear gas and baton charges in an effort to disperse the crowd, but the situation quickly deteriorated when some protesters managed to break through the main gate and enter the consulate’s outer grounds.

This incident marks one of the deadliest protests in Karachi in recent months, highlighting the fragile security environment surrounding foreign diplomatic missions. The Sindh government’s swift response underscores the importance of maintaining peace and preventing any escalation that could jeopardize diplomatic relations. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with enhanced security measures expected to remain in place until stability is fully restored.

Meanwhile, investigations into the protest and the circumstances leading to the fatalities are ongoing. The government has urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could inflame tensions further. Karachi, as Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub, remains a focal point for both domestic and international attention, making the protection of diplomatic missions a top priority for provincial and federal authorities alike.
