Section 144 Enforced in Islamabad as Protests Erupt Over Khamenei Assassination Reports

In response to escalating tensions and public unrest, the Islamabad district administration has officially imposed Section 144 across the federal capital. This legal measure prohibits all forms of public gatherings, including protests, demonstrations, and assemblies, aiming to curb any potential disturbances following reports of the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The enforcement of this order has led to the sealing off of the sensitive Red Zone area, a critical administrative and diplomatic hub in the city.

The decision to activate Section 144 comes amid growing demonstrations in Islamabad, where citizens have taken to the streets to express their anger and solidarity in light of the reported attack on Ayatollah Khamenei. Authorities have made it clear that any violation of the ban will result in stringent legal consequences, underscoring the seriousness with which the government is treating the situation. The administration has appealed to the public to avoid participating in any form of gathering, emphasizing that the restrictions apply universally without exceptions.

Protests initially erupted near Serena Chowk, a prominent intersection in Islamabad, where a large crowd assembled to voice their outrage over the news of the Supreme Leader’s assassination during attacks allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel on Iranian soil. In response, law enforcement agencies swiftly moved to contain the situation by placing containers and barricades on roads leading to Serena Chowk, effectively restricting access and dispersing crowds to prevent escalation.

Security forces have also deployed prison vans and increased their presence in the area as part of heightened precautionary measures. These steps are intended to maintain public order and ensure the safety of residents and government installations within the capital. Officials have reiterated that these actions are temporary and necessary to prevent any untoward incidents that could destabilize the city during this sensitive period.

It is worth noting that Islamabad’s Red Zone houses key government buildings, foreign embassies, and diplomatic missions, making it a focal point for security operations during times of political unrest. The imposition of Section 144 and the sealing of this area reflect the authorities’ commitment to safeguarding national security while managing the public’s right to peaceful expression under controlled conditions.

As the situation continues to develop, the administration remains vigilant, monitoring the protests closely and coordinating with law enforcement agencies to respond swiftly to any challenges. Citizens are urged to stay informed through official channels and cooperate with authorities to ensure peace and stability in the capital.
