In Rawalpindi, a Counter Crime Department (CCD) sub-inspector lost his life while trying to apprehend a wanted criminal on Wednesday. The suspect was subsequently killed in a separate gunfight with police.

Sub-Inspector Adnan Ghayyur was leading an operation to arrest Umar Khan, also known as Sheena, within the jurisdiction of Chaklala Police Station. During the attempt, the suspect opened fire directly at the officer, fatally wounding him with a bullet to the head.

Following the attack, Umar Khan fled the scene. However, the CCD team pursued him to the Dhok Chaudhrian area, where the suspect again opened fire. Police returned fire, resulting in the death of Umar Khan, who was described as a dangerous proclaimed offender wanted in multiple criminal cases.

CCTV footage captured the moment Sub-Inspector Ghayyur confronted the suspect during the arrest attempt, highlighting the intensity of the encounter.

In a significant development, Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Karim honored the fallen officer’s sacrifice and instructed law enforcement to swiftly apprehend any accomplices involved in the incident. He emphasized the deployment of all available resources to ensure justice.

Moreover, the IGP directed the Rawalpindi police to prioritize the welfare and comprehensive support of the martyred officer’s family, reaffirming the commitment to the police force’s well-being.
