Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Summit in Bishkek on Tuesday. Their discussions covered regional developments, preparations for the upcoming UN General Assembly session, and ongoing matters before the UN Security Council.

Dar expressed appreciation for Guterres’ leadership in strengthening the United Nations’ role in tackling global challenges and fostering effective multilateralism. He reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to the UN and highlighted the country’s enduring and close partnership with the international organization.

Meanwhile, both leaders exchanged perspectives on the regional situation and the agenda for the forthcoming UN General Assembly. They also reviewed current issues under consideration at the UN Security Council.

In a significant development, Guterres acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive and principled engagement in multilateral diplomacy and praised its efforts to enhance regional peace and security. During the meeting, Dar extended an invitation to the UN Secretary-General to visit Pakistan.
