In a tragic escalation of violence, nine deceased individuals and 36 injured protesters were admitted to Karachi’s Civil Hospital following clashes outside the United States Consulate. The incident unfolded amid heightened tensions after reports surfaced claiming the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel strike, which triggered widespread unrest in the city.
The Civil Hospital’s trauma centre confirmed that a total of 45 people were brought in for medical treatment and post-mortem procedures. Among the deceased, identified by hospital officials, were Kazim, Mubarak, Kazim Abbas, Adeel, Sajid Ali, Khawar Abbas, Muhammad Ali, along with one individual whose identity remains unknown. All victims, both dead and wounded, ranged in age from 18 to 50 years and had sustained gunshot wounds during the violent confrontation.
Earlier reports indicated that the unrest began when a large crowd of protesters gathered near the US Consulate in Karachi, expressing outrage over the alleged assassination news. The demonstrators chanted slogans and attempted to advance toward the consulate premises, escalating tensions on the ground. In response, law enforcement officials deployed tear gas and resorted to baton charges in an effort to control and disperse the agitated crowd.
Despite police efforts to maintain order, the situation deteriorated further when some protesters managed to breach the main gate and entered the outer compound of the consulate.
